With the Spirit of Renaissance we exercise New and Different approach to teaching Filmmaking and Cinematography. It is based on exploring Imagination and transforming Mind Image into language of Cinematic Expression.
Janusz has developed his Method of Dancing with Light after many years of teaching filmmaking and working as cinematographer...

"After years of studying filmmaking, many students realize they do not know how and what to do once they find themselves on a production set. In my opinion, this is the result of a wrong approach to teaching. Based on my experience, many teachers do not explore the importance of the cinematographer's mindset by not making the student aware of the logistics inherent in the creative process. It is known that any future Digital and Film Cinematographer needs to be familiar with basics of Film Photography that includes knowledge of Film Sensitometry and understanding of 18% Grey Card. Since whole Imaging System - be it Film or Video is based on Value of 18% Grey Card, understanding of it is of paramount importance. Just like understanding psychological attributes of Camera Lens, Camera Movement, Quality of Light and Lighting Styles.
Our facility in Florence consists of Production Stage with Cameras and Lighting Equipment and Film Laboratory where students get acquainted with nuances of Color and B&W Film Processing.
Creative Process in Lighting is about being able to light "from the Mind" with Light Meter and, without looking at Video Monitor during the Process.
Michelangelo said it perfectly:

Any other approach is merely an improvisation destined to failure for inevitable of Time running short and loss of Lighting Continuity.

Our training gives Student ability to start executing of any practical situation within limitation of three universal elements:

Budget, Imagination and Personal Courage.

Directions to School - Valina Studios:

From the city of Florence: drive to viale Europa, go over, approximately 2 Km, to Bagno a Ripoli and then get in the left hand lane (direction Rosano/Pontassieve). Drive approximately 3 Km: you get to Vallina. Continue on the same street, pass traffic light and turn left (at TOTAL petrol station, there's a road sign 'zona artigianale Vallina'). Turn first street on the left and then right. Here you are in via della Docciolina!. It takes 30 minutes to get to Valina Studios from Center Florence and ticket cost One Euro.
